Whatevs, this crap is EXCELLENT!

It's not really crap I was jk when I said it was that. It's in my top 5 songs written by you because it's very good. Very Happy

Some questions:
1) What's "fqr?"
2) Why are you so awesome?
3) Is this for a video game?
4) If not, it should be. It would be gr8 bg music for Blank's game that he was going to make about FCMidi.
5) <3 violin-type dealies in techno music.

Evidently it is Formula Q Racing. Other than that, search me. We need info, Doc!

I keep checking your site every so often to see if you've announced plans to assemble a buyable, physical CD of awesomeness. Have you ever considered this?

I downloaded this track about an hour ago and I've listened to it six times already. <3

Hey, yeah! Through a physical disc Fruity would be forced to distribute lossless audio like I've been nagging him to do!

This new tune is like something out of early Mega Man or Street Fighter games.

I have considered it many a time, but each time dismissed the notion as absurd, because no one would pay money for music they could freely download and burn to a CD of their own. ...Would they? Confused

Hm. You could probably get a limited pressing of 100 CDs done for about $300 (so it works out at $3 a CD), meaning you could break even either without selling them all, or just sell them all at a low price. I've thought about doing this myself, but the rates for CD pressing over here are... less favourable (about twice the price IIRC, though I may have just been looking at a crap site). I also think I'd be able to shift 50 copies, but 100 would be a tall order. Shame most places offer 100 as the lowest number of pressings. But anyway, I reckon most people on the boards would buy a copy, so that's quite a handful of people anyway. Probably a few more purchases if you advertise it on your site, youtube etc. A quick look on Last FM tells me you have 1,315 plays as "Dr Fruitcake" and 12,444 as "Dr. Fruitcake". That's quite a lot - I guess a large amount of it is OC ReMix's doing. But there you go, there's another place you could advertise it.

There's also CDBABY, but I haven't looked into the advantages of that, how it works, or what it's even really for, though a friend of mine has a CD on there.

I dunno, I think people like having physical copies. Plus, factory pressed CDs last much longer than homemade burned copies. Then there's the simple coolness factor of releasing music on CD, even if it isn't on a label, meaning even if you don't break even, it's a really cool thing to have done.

Song's great btw. I like the part that comes between 2:00 and 2:15, it's so megamans. Interesting choice of name btw, me and a bunch of others did a project called "Formula X Racing" a few years back (available here).

Well, the way I envisaged such a CD would be that it would contain a fair amount of original stuff not available on the website (although it could certainly also include a few 'Fruity classics' as well). I just think it would be cool to see you do something with the album format, and make a bunch of music that has a common theme slash ongoing narrative slash relevance between each track. Instead of just a 'best of Fruity compilation'. Besides, your mastering has improved tenfold in recent times and some of the older tracks might not sound up to scratch put next to the newer beauties unless you remastered them. If you were to make something like the aforementioned vision, I would orgasm with joy and, more importantly, send wads of cash your way. Very Happy

That being said, even if it were simply a compilation of your best preexisting tracks, I'd probably still buy it. I've got a thing about hoarding indie musician CDs and I buy stuff off CD Baby regularly. There's just something cool about having CDs of awesome music that nobody else has heard of.

As Dave says CD Baby seems to be the way a lot of indie musicians go and a couple of my friends use it also. If you turned up on there, I would definitely do my best to help spread the word. Smile

I just think it's a shame that your music kicks ass and it's only really us on the forum who seem to know about it. It would be awesome to get the word out and start pimpin' Fruity Music around the place.

I rarely purchase music because I'm so picky about my music. The few albums I've actually paid for have been mostly The Aquabats. I like Kevin's music as much as The Aquabats. I purchased their first album knowing full well that it was garbage, but they're not very well known, could probably use the money, and it does have a good song on it. So if you wanted to get $8 out of me for a CD, even if it only had the songs here on the site (Tea Break! Tea Break, Break Break Break!) you wouldn't have to work very hard. Include a cool graphic on it and an original song or two, and you could get at least $13.42 from me for it.

Also, why outsource the CD making? Buy the CDs, get a CD graphic stamper for $12 + tax, and spend an afternoon burning and graphic stamping.

I did have this big post typed out, but really. The Aquabats are appreciable as a fun lighthearted band.

The printing quality will not be so good, and home-burned CDs can deteriorate in as little as five years sometimes. Pressed CDs can last 30 years or more (so say!) Then there's the much higher possibility of discrepancies and burning errors between each copy. If you're serious about putting a CD out, it's not worth being cheap about it IMO.

Yeah, and 90% of home-burned discs won't work in my CD player. If I buy a seemingly professional disc and it plays like a crappy CD-R, I'm going to be pissed.

I know my CD player is probably just a bit old and crappy, but mine can't be the only one. Dave is right: if you're going to go pro, go pro. Don't half-arse on it.

Alright, well, Kevin, I'll buy your CD so I can have an official Kevin Green CD, and I don't care if it's a CD-R and the graphic is Archmidis drawn with a sharpie.

But the outsourcing idea does sound pretty good. But 100 CD is lots.

Pshaw, son. Forget that. If I'm gonna make people pay for stuff, it's all* gonna be brand-spankin'-new stuff they ain't never heard before!

*Save possibly one or two remastered oldies. But that's forgivable, innit?
