To use the common aphorism, "lolwut".
Anyway, to infuse a tad more point into this post, the reason I wanted to make a thread there in the first place was to raise the issue of an (entirely frivolous) PHPbb add-on doo-hickey that I saw on some board somewhere: each member had their post count displayed next to their posts, as per usual, but underneath that was their word count. I tell you, I was blown away.
So the nub of my gist is, would this trick be difficult to implement, and would you bother doing it just for li'l ol' me? _________________ Delivering very monthly quotes for over six freaking years, it's Upsi's Quote of the Month:

Fixed the posting permissions. I'll move this topic.
Edit: Oh and I doubt that would be difficult to implement although I would check for a phpbb mod already created.

Exactly like that.
You don't have to install it, of course, and we should probably organise some sort of vote first, but rest assured I'd be thrilled. _________________ Delivering very monthly quotes for over six freaking years, it's Upsi's Quote of the Month:

If the other admins like the idea, I can put it in. I have no problem with it, personally. _________________ Some things are best read out of context.

I vote yes, hahaha, that's an awesome idea. Would the word count filter out words from gobbledeegook the same way it does for posts? _________________ [quote="Someone's sig on the AoC forums"]THis game really is more geared towards the adult then, teenbeat wow. They'd better not, or our silly single (or none... or many, if it counts emoticon uses and our recent OTT posts) word posts would factor in and screw up the average. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

As long as it ignores Gobbledygook (hopefully it's versatile enough, I didn't check the page for the mod), sounds like a plan. Unfortunately I don't get actively involved enough in most of the few debates around here these days, so mine won't be high, but whatever. It's a neat little feature. Some of you all write bloody essays in the Brawl topic. _________________ when the world is sick, can't no one be well? but i dreamt we was all beautiful and strong

I was about to ask a question, but then decided to check the support topic to see if somebody else had already thought of it. Sure enough:
| NoahK wrote: | | piotor wrote: | great MOD but...is there any way to change it somehow that it won't count quotes 8O ???
because its common, that users on my forum post looong articles from other websites....
thx in advance |
That functionality is already in. Look for the part in the code that says this:
| Code: | | // Removes [ quote ] and [ /quote ], as well as the text inbetween them! |
|
...Which is exactly what I was hoping for.
On a slightly unrelated note, I also noticed this nifty little addon, which would allow the sorting of members by highest/lowest word count. Since you know everyone's going to want to know who our most/least loquacious members are.

Oh, yes please.
Should it discount words written inside of quote boxes? More often than not, it's not something you're after writing, so it could throw the reading off. Especially in the case of people replying to really long posts just to say "tl;dr". And that's no good.
EDIT: Oh, right. Nice telepathy there, Fruits. _________________ ~Banjo-Fella |

Except that there are a few people who bold their quotes instead of using the quote boxes. |

Few people do that, well atleast as far as I've seen, and they usualy only do it for smaller quotes. _________________ http://gadgettr.deviantart.com/ |

Drats, the method behind the madness of my patented bold quote usage is discovered. I am undone!
Anyways, sounds like a good idea to me. Perhaps we can get even more technical and figure out a way to display more information in a members profile, like words-per-post averages and all that jazz. |

Actually, that particular statistic is already included in the mod DAGRON linked to. Lern2read. _________________ "" |

I'm looking into modifying this to work with the mod that we have that ignores posts on specified boards. _________________ Some things are best read out of context.

Damn, didn't even notice that particular sentence, but that pretty much covers what I was talking about. I'll go back to lurking now. |

Shame that the total word didn't count the words we've already said, so the Post Count and the Word Count won't be in sync.
But oh well, it's still pretty cool. _________________ :3 |
