I've been getting them often. Does anybody (read: Dr F) know what's going on?

Be assured, our crack team of expert scientologists is continuing to investigate the situation.

I don't think there's anything we can do about it. HostDime is just at their limit.

I submit a formal complaint to Dr. Fruitcake and The Dragon to push HostDime on this issue. I get phBB critical errors so often now, it usually makes the forum unbrowsable. Frequently, it craps out before I can submit a post, which is very frustrating.

At least ask them what's going on? See if there's anything that can be done to alleviate the situation? It only affects the forum, not the website, but who browses through the website?

I just happened to me now.

In fact it cut off the last post I was going to make before leaving.

Oh, and twice more. That's within 5 minutes or so.

I don't know what I'm trying to accomplish with these posts. Just to let you know how terrible things are for me I guess.

Anyway, SOMETHING MUST BE DONE

They come in pulses, but those pulses are brutally long and interfere with everything you try to do. Sad Lune

For the record, this was the last message from HostDime:

Quote:
Hello,

Each of the accounts on the shared host get equal access to MySQL. The only limitation is the number of databases per account, if any, and the global connection limits.

What the most likely cause would be is the server was passing through a high load condition. These are the times when it is important to let us know as soon as possible so that we can see the issue firsthand.

Regards,

Craig

Like I've been saying, nothing we can do. Global connection limit would imply the limit across the server, so we're probably running in tandem with some people who are hitting their connection cap too.

...are some people getting them for longer than others? Personally, I see them maybe two or three times a week, and then they're gone in a few minutes...

At any rate, the fact is we have no idea where the problem lies. Could be with HostDime, could be us. I dunno what's the latest on what we're doing about it, though. If I touched anything PHP-related, it would most likely explode... so... Rolling Eyes

[16:38] <DrFruitcake> They just couldn't replicate the problem so they dismissed it out of hand.

[16:38] <Blank> Whaaat??
[16:39] <Blank> The problem happens all the time
[16:39] <DrFruitcake> Basically "Uh, we don't see the error you're talking about. So, yeah, sorry."

The conversation then went towards me convincing Dr. F to run the server out of his own home and throw HostDime the big one.

And I still say we should stay with HostDime so more people will visit the IRC.

So we're pushing the limits of the server?

Damn! Maybe you should open up a "donations" section, so the members of fcmidi can pitch in and buy a super-internet, where we can all live in peace.

Actually, I guess it's kind of crazy to set up a donation thing just to avoid random 30-second intervals of downtime. Still, I imagine it'd help you just paying for the site in general, fruitums, regardless.

schoen is how you write it without the umlaut.

Chzrm3: I've donated before! So has the Commodore and Chaos Emblem/Prehistoric Ducky. They gave change from their pockets, I gave something more substantial two New Years ago. Herr Doktor gives custom titles for donating. Whee!

I think the problem here is that it's shared hosting, as opposed to how much allotment (bandwidth, space, etc) we purchase. MySQL has limitations as to the number of concurrent connections on a single system. It's a matter of licensing.

I don't see what the big deal about this error message is anyway. Granted it's a mild inconvenience, but come on. Let's say for example when I hit submit to post this, it goes to the error message. Wats do I d0? I just hit back and wait a while. It's not really that much of a big deal - Most of my time spent on this forum is spent procrastinating when I should be doing something else anyway (Even now, at 1:30 in the morning, I was doing 3D stuff and then I thought "I wonder if Chiz cut this stupid aayla secura BS out yet), so I usually just do that while I wait.

I mean, is there anyone who's getting this crap for HOURS at a time? Cause that might be a slight porblem.

From what Tommy described, it sounds like he gets it pretty frequently.

I don't - usually it's 30 seconds max and then I'm free to move about the cabin. On rare occasions, though, it's down for a good 5-10 minutes... however, usually when it's like that? It doesn't pop up again for a while afterwards.

Yosh: I do, or I just have bad timing. I'll try to go there, be foiled, retry a bunch of times in the next minute or so, give up, try again later, be hit with the same thing.. My favorite part is pounding it 'til it lets me in, then it craps out right when I want to post. Upsilon said that it happens to him far too much and that's why he hasn't been on lately as it's too frustrating.

O_O

If it's stopping Upsi from posting it's officially a matter of international importance. Posts from Upsi are few and far between as it is - to have "php critical error" deny us of his wit completely?

I won't have it!
