Just so you guys know, this is completely awesome. Easily the greatest OCR album to date.

I need to set aside an hour or so to listen to this properly. But from what I've heard so far it's brilliant.
The track by Dave Wise is a beaut- it must be Robin Beanland on trumpet, Grant Kirkhope on guitar and the Wisemeister on sax. |

Hah, yes I'm glad I'm not the only one who dove straight for the Wise-Kirkhope-Beanland track before bothering with anything else. It's (naturally) great.
I have certain pre-concieved notions about OC Remixes which I will try to subdue as best I can when I play this album because, above all else, it gratifies me that this game's music is still loved, 50 years on. Or however the hell long it's been I dunno.

Double-post after listening to this...
Eh it's pretty good. It has several gems and about twice as many "meh" tunes... but that's typical of OCR albums. With the exception of their Sonic 2 Album, that is... which basically can be summed up with the following:
- Take all Sonic 2 music
- Convert to rave music
- Oh wait, it can't even possibly work as rave music? Eh screw it, convert it to rave music anyway.
- ???
- LOL WE IZ MUSISHUNS
But anyway.
This album, at least, seems to encompass several genres. My favorite is "Rare Respite," the remix of the rigging levels... though the tunes remixing the lava flows, the forests, the bramble levels, and the beehive level also deserve mention. I like the mines one too... the one that Hale worked on. And of course the contribution of Wise & Company is not to be overlooked as an awesome piece.
Is there a page which shows all the lyrics of the pieces which have them? In particular, the heavy-metal one which is supposed to remix the final boss battle was largely incomprehensible to me.
Other than that, my only other complaint is that I wish they would've put them in proper order. The forest remix should've been on the second disc, Stronghold Showdown comes after the castle march music, etc... just a minor annoyance. _________________ This post has been brought to you by

Huh? The lyrics had the virtue of being utterly terrible. To the point where they're actively detrimental to the music. Although one kindly remixer had the good sense to convert the words into Japanese and thus immunise me from the usual spontaneous vomiting.
Apart from that there were some good bits. The Jib Jig remix might've been my favourite too (although what's the deal with the piano and synth pads in a piece of celtic folk music? Spoils the whole "rustic" feel somewhat don't you think? Less is more, etc.). I also liked Stronghold Showdown an awful lot. Very Hollywood! And Lockjaw's Saga for similar reasons.
Also, the bonus disk (CRANKY) has a big band version of the bonus theme; worth a listen 'cause it's better than the version they used on the album proper.
Oh, and I must congratulate the guy who remixed Crocodile Cacophony for interpreting the word "cacophony" very literally. _________________ ~Lester Square |

I'm not saying I liked the lyrics, so much. I'm saying that if they're gonna be in there, I'd prefer to at least know what they are. _________________ This post has been brought to you by
