...which one would you be and why? This topic sounds kind of clichéd, but no one's made it yet, so I decided to. You can be either a real or hypothetical inanimate object... you know what, maybe you should just name both.
If I could be any real inanimate object, I would definitely be a magnetar; that is, a neutron star with an insanely strong magnetic field. Those things are frickin' awesome! I would have three kinds of power at my disposal (magnetism, gravity, and strong nuclear force)!
Here's a pic of a magnetar. Pretty awesome, ain't it?
If I could be any hypothetical (or made-up) inanimate object, I'd be a wizard's staff, because then I'd be magical, and shoot purty lazurs.
These things are awexome.
Finally, if I had to be something on Earth, I'd be a typewriter, because then I'd get to hit something repeatedly (paper) and be productive. Also, it would be really cool to be in the Boston Typewriter Orchestra.
Slick.

I'm inclined to steal Upsilon's idea and say that being any sort of vehicle would be interesting, because they have a luxury many objects don't get: frequent changes of scenery.  A flyin' machine -- e.g., a helicopter, a weather balloon, or a jetpack -- would be especially cool.
Alternatively, I might also enjoy being a video game console (whether next-gen or oldskool). Then I'd have an excuse to play games all day long! 
... Wait... no... I've got it! The perfect idea...
For a day, I want to be Masahiro Sakurai's PC.

Actually... I'd probably start up a subsite of FCMidi where I would make posts about the many secrets I'd discovered, one by one. And billinos of Smash Bros. fans would flock to my site every weekday morning in the hopes of getting but a tiny glimpse of the majesty that is in store for us. And I would call it... the FROJO!!
