This was back in the days of the golden age of FCMIDI (like, 1.0 versions and whatnot), where a few members participated in some pretty dope serious RPs. I was digging around computer files and somehow stumbled across them, and figured that I'd repost them for old time's sake:

- Forgotten Destiny
- Planetary Renegades
- PSO Wars
- The New World

While they do represent the sort of elitist RP crew of old, it's still worthwhile for some nostalgic reading. Special thanks to the good Doctor for hosting these.

My personal favorite is Forgotten Destiny. I sort of liked that character. ;[

I remember these... well, I remember Forgotten Destiny and The New World, anyways; as those were the two I was in.

Gotta say, I liked Destiny more than New World - and I remember Renegades being pretty sweet, but I only read it from time to time because I wasn't in it.

It'd be nice if we could get a good RP running one of these days. I'd make an effort to be part of one but I wouldn't be able to promise being consistent in posting. I think most of us are a little too busy in our lives now.

As far as chronological creation date, Planetary Renegades is definitely the dinosaur of the group. That was probably one of the first RPs ever created on the forum (save, of course, for the Jovial Juggler RP and Phoenix RP, which I believe an old forumer had at one point saved in a word document). I think Forgotten Destiny came next, and then PSO Wars and A New World were sometime after.

But yeah, get on AIM some more, Timely, and we can discuss maybe throwing another serious RP into these forums and seeing how it goes.

Damnit, I never participated in PSO Wars, and now I'm the only one who still plays PSO with any regularity. Crying or Very Sad

But anyway, these are win. And they reminded me how much I use homages like a bastard (read: steal names because I suck at making them). Beware, nostalgia street ahead, population CM:

Will Blazkowicz (Renegades) - Taken from Wolfenstein 3D. Later applied to my first and highest (now Level 200) PSO character, with one of his signature weapons named after the RP ("RENEGADE NEEDLE").

Max Stone / "Master Shake" (Forgotten Destiny) - You could say it was blatanty stolen from ATHF and you wouldn't be wrong. Funny thing is I had a PSO char by this name by that point... he was my second one, after Will. I... I gotta be honest, I groan at how one-dimensional this guy was now.

Nathan Lancaster (New World): Ah, finally I started writing decently here, as well as thinking up my own damn names. ROFL Lune But the homages don't end here. When it came time for me to create my first Spycraft character, his given name was Jake Lancaster - presumably a direct relative with 15 or 20 generations of distance between them. Razz His codename is "Falcon" and he's a helicopter pilot. Coincidentally, my first campaign as Falcon just finished today.

Aris Mikeya - You all fail for forgetting "Come Hell or High Water." This was a sort of unknown-asian/indian half-breed guy who learned power over lightning via a staff. And he's got a Spycraft character named after him, too; another presumably-distant relative, Dustin "DD" Mikeya, otherwise known as Dynamo. Dynamo has a bit of british blood along with the asian/indian mix now, and he's a slightly-crazed melee combat artist with a bad habit of forming personal vendettas at the drop of a hat. His weapon is a staff which can change form (3-section, longstaff, quarterstaff) and has a tazer embedded in it - the idea being that the family affinity with electricity has not been forgotten.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I'd be more than up for another serious RP. I wonder, though, what those who were around during those times thought of us "elitists." I wouldn't have used that term, but we were indeed a group who tended to stick together. The problem, as I saw it, was that we had plenty of potentially good RPers, but only so many spots per game. I wonder if any of the old forumers even read the stories we worked up, or if we were just amusing ourselves? Rolling Eyes

Seriously, somebody [s:86d711bb53]humor[/s:86d711bb53] tell me.

Christ, PSO Wars, I'd forgotten about that. I made, like, one post, and Aka made one and it got deleted because it was crap.

Yeah, I don't RP anymore, and this has reminded me why: I suck at it.

Yeah, CM, I kind of miss Come Hell or High Water. Mainly because I created it, sure; but I liked how there was more action - it felt a bit more epic to me in that way. The problem with it though was that I had kept coming up with these ideas that I presented, which caused the other posters to react to it instead of genuinely throwing in something themselves. So my lesson has been learned - I personally won't create an RP because I'll get too carried away with it... I prefer to help other people make one instead. Everyone's better off that way.

Hey.

Hey.

.....hey.

I just noticed something.

The New World doc FAILS. HORRIBLY. It doesn't have, like, 90% of the story. I don't even make a post in it after my bio. What gives? -_-

I saved all these at periodic intervals - generally like, every two weeks I would play catch up and save everything. This wasn't something I was updating every day. Unfortunately, in almost all cases, the forums decided to melt down and all the data was lost before I had a chance to save a lot of the last posts.

So yeah, there's bound to be a lot omitted towards the end. Some RPs I cared to update more frequently than others. Everything else is intact, though.

Well the thing is, I KNOW SOMEBODY saved them. Hell, I remember reading my latest posts in New World just a couple months ago... I don't think it was back in Forums 2.0 days......

Er, we already have several other fairly active RPs on this board...

If that isn't what you're referring to, then one what?

There's a distinction between the sort of RPs on this thread and the sort you'll find currently active. It should be obvious just by reading the samples in the first post, but if you need it to be spelled out, the sort Commodaore is longing for is a serious, character-driven and story-based RP from a collaboration of writers. Moon adventure and Yoshgun's RP are story's almost entirely sprung from the creator's mind, with other players offering short commands to move the plot along. The Dungeons and Dragons thread is closer, but quite obviously (and hilariously) a farce.

Awesome. We need to make one of those RIGHT NOW. By which I mean TOMORROW, because I'M GOING TO BED.

You do realize, Izzhov, that the key word in JK's post is serious. You have to believe in your character pretty well and be interested in developing them on a level far beyond "CM defeated Haunter, CM gained 655 XP." Razz Really, it's best comparable to a serious creative writing assignment. With +8 Seriousness. For Serious.

...Seriously.

These RPs are boring as FECK. Get out while you still can. Razz

All kidding aside, it'd be nice to throw a couple of fresh faces in the ring if we do start a new one. But I get the sense you don't really understand the difference, judging by your post that I "ignored." So yeah, just a heads-up. At the very least, I strongly reccomend you take a look at the ones in this thread, and then add, say, 4 or 5 years onto the progression of our collective writing level. Razz

Man, PSO Wars was good times. Lick Lune

I really enjoyed New World, too. A pity everybody simultaneously stopped posting the instant we reached land because nobody had a clue where to take the story from there. Razz

So, are you saying I'm barred from joining any serious RP's because you don't think I can be serious enough? I can be serious! Really! I promise! I want to join an extremely boring serious RP. Seriously, I do. I know how to be very serious. Pleeeease?

When these happen, everyone gets a chance to post a character. Then, there is a selection process. Feel free to post one.
