NOTE II: Since the poll is actually Serious Business and the results of it will have a real impact on the FCMidi IRC channel, I did not include a joke option. Cheese Monkey, please to not add one thanks.

IRC bots are things that are in IRC channels and do stuff. For example, one could put a bot in a channel that said "Hello, [Username]" whenever someone joined the channel. Or you could have a bot that generates random numbers on command. Something like that.

Bucket is an infobot. This means that you can store things called "factoids" in him which can be recalled later. For example, if you say "Bucket, cheese is yellow," the next time someone needs to know what cheese is they can say "Bucket, what is cheese?" and Bucket will respond "Cheese is yellow."

This is, admittedly, pretty stupid and useless in and of itself. But here's the cool part about Bucket: factoids can also be specific responses to specific comments made on the IRC channel. So if you say something like "Bucket, Hello is <reply> Hi", then the next time someone says "Hello" or "Hello, Bucket" on the channel, he might respond by saying "Hi." And what's really cool about this is that once you get him to store enough of these kinds of "factoids," Bucket occasionally starts acting almost human. Also, if at any time Bucket starts to get annoying, anyone can say "bucket, shut up," and he will do so for awhile.

So I ask all of you: should we have a Bucket on our IRC channel? If there's anything you don't understand about Bucket, you prolly should ask me before voting.

No, it really isn't... Aquabot lets you say things through it, whereas Bucket can be programmed to say things on its own.

Let me re-phrase that.
When I go into a chatroom, I want to be talking to people, not some cold-hearted robot. And I don't want that robot butting his "worthy dialogue" or whatever into my conversation. That's just rude.

See, the post put me under the impression that he'd just talk. Which would be lame. And stupid.

I still say no because bots, to me, are a lame idea that detract from actual conversation because everyone will be too busy either

a) Saying "Bucket tell me what shape Tommy's butt is"
b) Getting ticked off at me because the first thing I'll do upon entering will be to shut it off.

I've never liked bots.

I don't like the idea of the Bucket, either. Even though there are long periods of silence in that IRC, it's better than having some Smarterchild trying to converse irrelevant drivel at you.
