You can't just get all pissed if someone insults you. Getting upset won't change the fact that you've been insulted, and in some cases, it may justify the insult. You can't control what other people do. The best you can do is control it's effect, particularly on you. If someone wrongs you, and you react in a way that amplifies the damage or attention drawn to the misdeed, then you're helping them. By starting a big cryfest about being insulted, you fail to keep your objective neutrality and therefore have a difficult time refuting the insult with cold logic.
