How would you be planning to save the treasury, and how much time would it take (read: how much advance warning would you need)?

I'm still thinking about options for the how. The simplest way would be to save a copy of the forum database (which takes very little time). If I did that, I would probably set up a miniature, read-only forum on KE and import the treasury into that for display purposes.

Can I just say, off-topic, that that is where we are different? God, I can just sit down for a day and write music if I feel inspired enough. If I'm not interested in what I'm writing, I tend to get tired of it pretty quickly though, 'tis true.

That is truly awesome. I have tremendous respect (and, to be frank, a little envy) for anyone who can do that. Razz

Hey, if you're gonna be a spelling/grammar nazi, at least accompany it with some thematically-appropriate German. Because we all bloody well know you can. ;[

In other news, I'm told that Towson's gaming club (the one I helped found and later had to abandon) was playing that game daily throughout the second half of this past semester. ROFL Lune

WARNING: COMPLETELY RANDOM CHANGE OF TOPIC AHEAD

Okay, so I was just looking at the mod cave and realized that some of the threads in there could be hilarious if moved out for the general public to view. In particular: "I'm Hella Bored," the "I think the moderator cave is a pretty cool guy" series, and that one which originally was about something else but was then turned into "WARIO MAAAN" after a long edit war between you, me and JK. Razz

Essentially, we should move out those few threads which were just nonsense threads (the rest were... not really funny XD). We could make that a tiny little topic treasury sub-board, even. Razz

EDIT: The injokes, man... just the injokes. I bet no one will ever understand who "Generic User Charles" was. ROFL Lune Good times.

EDIT 3: Revert of edit 2... ehh ._.

I don't devote nearly as much time to my music as a professional -- or a wannabe professional -- would need to. I'm a perfectionist by nature, which means that when I create, I do so excruciatingly slowly. I love writing music, but it's hard for me to write for hours on end. It's a little draining. I can compose for maybe 2-3 hours at a time, tops, before that section of my brain gets tired and shuts down. I'm okay with investing that amount of time into the craft, but a true pro would have to have the drive to invest more.

Maybe you just lack the professional confidence that tells you immediately that any given note or beat you've laid down is correct, allowing you to GET ON WITH IT. I know for sure that I have this problem - all I need is more study to embolden me, and then I'll start treating each drawing, and certainly each line, more like tissue instead of children.

Well, Dr Fruitcake, you were an inspiration to me when I was first starting to write music. So even if all the Dr Druitcaking was just a hobby on the side of whatever, I very much enjoyed it and I'm happy that I was able to participate in this little community that you were cool enough to maintain over the years. Props to all the mods as well for that.

But we can still all keep in touch, both on the new site and on irc. And I didn't mention it (because I haven't done anything yet), but I've got a couple domain names (a .com and an .info) and some web space on a shitty shared web host. So I can contribute to the FCMidi legacy! I know the backing up process (and the foruming process, though I don't really feel like admining another forum EVER) is in good hands, but I'd be perfectly cool with using the space I've got for some FCMidi stuff.

EDIT: I submitted my post prematurely! But anyway, thanks for all the good times. I have a lot of respect for your creative talents. I've bookmarked your site, and good luck with everything!

I have been mulling over what to say to this, and after much debate, have settled on the following.

I have known you, insofar as a person can "know" another person they've never actually met, for the best part of a decade, and you've had the Dr Fruitcake moniker since I first contacted you. I wish you the very best of luck moving beyond FCMidi, and this is a change that is long overdue. Do whatever you have to do. Kevin-esque looks great. I should probably also use the death of Dr. Fruitcake as an opportunity to apologise for the various projects that you've worked on with me over the years which (for a variety of reasons) never actually saw any fruition. I still have all the unreleased MIDIs and bits and pieces that you did for me, and I immensely appreciate the time you took to do the stuff for me.

But anyway, back on topic. I'm curious about your "continuation" of a musical "career", since it hasn't really been something you've actually made much money from thus far (unless I've missed something). Are we therefore to assume this is an early step towards making music into a proper career plan, a proper Thing for you? Are you going to try to get work as a composer? Are you going to try to get into videogame music? Are you going to be selling these CDs you say you're working on? Essentially, what's the plan? I'm sure I speak for everybody here when I say that we will do our damnedest to support and promote you in whatever you do.

As for the Fruitcake MIDI actual website, well, the forum's been dead as disco for a long time, and I'm pretty glad to see the retirement of that terrible old layout I made back when dinosaurs walked the earth. I think it's probably for the best. Mr Green

So, um... well, all the best, old chum. All the best. *virtual handshake*

OKAY, OKAY, I'M HERE. GAH.

Egad, I disappear for two small years (or... uh, so) and this place is dying?!

Actually, seems like it's a very wise and mature decision to make Mr. Fruityman. (clearly) I understand the call to move on, or the demands of real life making you reevaluate where to spend your time.

Breh breh sad face breh breh it's cool breh breh what everyone else said

That being said, I will always treasure and giggle about the time I did spend here. Even if everyone thought me an attentionwhore/vegetableslut. Razz

I do hope people will keep in touch using that... chat-thingie. I sense much internet-hilarity to come.

See, noenvy, I remember you before the whole "vegetable slut" thing, so, no, you won't live on in my mind as a vegthro loving slut, but as the nice lady responsible for many art things and internet pets.

...

Uh, that's a good thing, right?

What's being said, what's in your head, what's in the words that we believe?
Bop to the sound, drop what you've got -- 'cause it's a song inside of me.
I can see your face, I can feel the sea, I see that it's a part of me.
Let's break the trance, let's make 'em dance and see what we are meant to be!
Might be the end, might be the start, could be the air that lies between.
Could be this song, could be the beat, could be the words that set you free.
You say believe, I don't believe, I can't believe in what you say.
I'd rather be a part of me, a part that you? You'll never see.

Actually, that was a different friend-o'-Lucca's. The lady in question was Lunaria Sangrael / Luna di Drago / Juuniji Tsuki / probably several other names I've forgotten.
